The history of Miljøfluen
Miljøfluen® has produced biological fly control since 1993 and has grown to become a modern business that specialises in effective fly control for agricultue.
The start in the 1990s
Miljøfluen® was established in 1993. In the beginning the production facilities were small, experimental, and located in Gandrup in Northen Jutland. Using the features of beneficial insects to fight flies had not previously been common in Denmark
Until then many farms had either accepted living with the plague of flies in the stables, or tried controlling it with insecticides.
Tannie Andersen, who today is the owner of Miljøfluen, was back then hired to work in the office and was part of building the concept of Miljøfluens from the bottom up.

The end of the 1990s
In the middle of the 90s a small but growing segment of farmers demanded alternative and simpler solutions to fly problems. That is why we started breeding predatory flies in large amounts, and we send them by post to the farmers. We also startet reorganising the production methods so we could become SPF approved. We gained a lot of experiences - both with predatory flies and what it took for them to live and grow healthy, so they can go to the stables and do their thing - but also about stables, and the differences between pig and cattle stables. We also started getting requests for our products from farmers and sellers in other parts of Europe.
The 2000s
Through the years Miljøfluen® grew bigger and bigger. Established farming noticed the good features of the predatory flies and requested more and bigger deliveries. As a consequence we had to expand the production facilities multiple times, Early on, in addition to predatory flies we also started producting mini wasps. These were suitable, not just for controlling the common housefly - but also the biting fly in stables and deep litter bedding. In 2003 the current owner Tannie Anders bought into the ownership group after being the main office worker since day one.
The 2010s
In 2010 Tannie Andersen bought the whole of Miljøfluen and moved the production of predatory flies and mini wasps to Dronninglund. Back then completely new production facilities and offices were established. No later than 2019 another expansion was necessary to keep up with the demand for our products. We have achieved great knowledge about the use of beneficial insects for fly control, but we don't rest of the laurels. The Danish farming community keeps changing and new technological solutions, and expansions abroad have meant that we have to stay on our toes to keep up.
2020 and onwards...
We keep up-to-date with the development within stables and keep developping new programmes for how our predatory flies and mini wasps can be used in modern stables. Most recently Miljøfluen® has future-proofed by including the next generation in the leadership. Owner Tannie Anders who has been part of building Miljøfluen® since the beginning in 1993. Her son-in-law, Søren Bøgelund Nielsen has worked in the production facilities since 2011 and become head of production in 2018. In 2020 her daughter, Tina Anders, who is married to Søren, also joined the company.
