Concept
Miljøfluen has for more than 30 years specialised in biological fly control consisting of treating the environment of stables using predatory flies and mini wasps.
Miljøfluens concept is based on common sense
In most stables the conditions for unwanted flies are exceptionally good due to there being lots of heat, moisture, and manure for them to lay their eggs in.
You can either treat the problem chemically, mechanically, or biologically. We are experts in biological control methods.
Chemical control methods might feel effective but they are labour intensive and expensive
Chemical control methods usually work by using fly poison which is either sprayed (mist spraying), poured, or smeared manually on areas outside of the animals’ reach.
Chemical treatment against flies can feel effective in the moment you use it, but only treatment methods such as smearing or pouring in the stables will have a lasting effect usually about 14 to 28 days.
Afterwards the treatment has to be repeated to achieve the same effect. This is because the common house fly, which are usually the most annoying flies in stables have multiple states in their life cycles.
Spraying insecticides have an immediate effect on grown flies, which gives the impression that they are highly effective as the effect can be seen immediately when the flies fall dead to the floor. But it does nothing about the fly eggs, pupae, or lavae living in the slurry channels or the deep litter bedding.
Insecticides that are poured in the stables, usually larvicides, have an effect on the lavae, but does nothing against pupae or fully grown flies and thus they can continue multiplying
Using mechanical fly control only kills off the grown flies and does nothing for solving the core of the problem
Mechanical fly control includes fly traps and fly catchers both of which can take many different forms and use many different methods. These tools can help reduce the amount of grown flies, but they cannot handle the full problem on their own.
These tools can be used as a supplement to other forms of fly control, and Miljøfluen carry some of these fly traps, which can be used in areas where our specialised control methods cannot. This can be places such as outdoors areas, like waste areas, terraces, passageways, garages, and similiar. For stables, though, we recommend using biological fly control.
We offer a complete and strategic solution for your stable
Biological fly control is a method that provides the tools necessary to actually overcome the fly problems and not just treat the symptoms as is the case with chemical and mechanical control options.
For this to work, however, it is necessary that you use the treatment as the preventative and holistic method that it is.
The fight starts in the spring
Biological fly control is a preventative method, so it is beneficial to start when there are few flies in the stables. This is usually in the early spring, before the heat takes off and speeds up the life cycle of the flies.
When the flies have already started buzzing around the animals og their reproductive cycle is at its highest you have to put in a massive effort to bring down the number of flies.
This is why it makes sense to be strategic and be on the forefront in your fight against the flies and take advantage of either predatory flies or mini wasps in the stable environment before unwanted flies get the upper hand.
Follow the insertion plan
If you are interested in a non-binding offer for biological fly control we can offer to make an insertion plan tailored for your needs. Please contact the main office, so we can talk about how best to help you depending on your type of stable.
The insertion plan is a non-binding subscription, in which you will receive the beneficial insects according to your plan and you simply have to place them in the designated areas. You will only need one bag of predatory flies placed in a environmental bucket for every 100 square meter stable, to pour a bag of predatory fly pupae and larvae in the slurry channel, if possible at a mixing point, or alternatively place or scatter the content of a mini wasp where you have deep litter bedding.
Then you simply leave them to do their thing until you receive a new portion of beneficial insects from us.
Typically the insertion plan will include that the deliveries slow down as winter approaches and increase again once spring is just around the corner. Miljøfluen will handle all of that. Once the insertion plan is done, we will send you the beneficial insects when they are needed, and you simply contact us if anything in your stable changes or you have any questions.
It is easy, non-committal, and you only pay for what you receive
Once the insertion plan is completed it is completely up to you if you wish to accept the offer, and afterwards your subscription is non-binding and you can cancle it at any point of time.
Our consulting is also free and you are always welcome to contact our office at +45 98 25 99 00, so we can help you if you have any questions or anything changes.
