Mini wasps

High quality, fair prices, good costumer service – Effective and Environmentally friendly fly control using predatory flies and mini wasps

Mini wasps breed by laying eggs in the pupae of flies and are natural enemies of amongs others the common house fly (Musca domestica) and the biting fly (Stomoxys calcitrans).”

Mini wasps are used as fly control instead of using poison

Mini wasps are found in nature in most of Europe, but at Miljøfluen® we have specialised in breeding them in big enough numbers that they can be used in pig stables or cattle stables for controlling flies. This means you don’t have to use poison and chemicals which can become less effecient with time due to the unwanted insects developing resistances over time.

Mini wasps are particularly good for stables with deep litter bedding

Mini wasps are particularly good for fly control in stables with deep litter bedding. If you don’t use deep litter bedding in your stables but instead use, for instance, slurry channels then our predatory flies can be used instead.

The mini wasps are mailed directly to the stables

The mini wasps are packed in airtight containers which we send directly to the stables.

Unwanted flies will keep invading your stables. The mini wasps will have to be added to your stables at regular intervals. This is why a fly control plan using mini wasps is a subscription with no lock-in.

The calculation of how often you need to add the beneficial insects and how many bags or containers you need depends on the setup of your stables, contact our main office to hear what we can offer you.

We send you a special mix of different types of parasitic wasps

Parasitic wasps from Miljøfluen® is a special blend of several different types of parasitic wasps. The different types complement each other in controlling the unwanted flies in stables as they prefer different depths of the deep litter bedding thus fighting on several different levels.

The wasps are SPF approved

All of our wasps are of course SPF approved and can be used in both conventional and organic livestocks.

How mini wasps work

parasitic wasps are a group of wasps which breed by laying their eggs in fly pupae. This means the parasitic wasps are natural enemies of, among other, the common house fly (Musca domestica) as well as the biting house fly (Stomoxys calcitrans) and they can be used to control unwanted flies in pig stables and cattle stables.

The mini wasps will be mailed directly to the stables

Mini wasps from Miljøfluen® are sent in containers to the stables at regular intervals. Thus a control solution using mini wasps is a subscription with no lock-in.

How the mini wasps works for you

  • Step 1. Mini wasps are good for stables with deep litter bedding and they have to get into the bedding to find the fly pupae of the unwanted flies. This can be achieved in two different ways.
    • Either by scattering the content of the container along the edge of the deep litter bedding
    • Or by simply placing the open container near the area you want fly control in. Make sure to place the container out of reach of livestock.

  • Step 2. When the mini wasps have been added to the stables they will make their way into the deep litter bedding and start hunting for flye pupae to lay their eggs in. The offspring of the mini wasps live of the content of the pupae (the fly larvae) while it grows and develops into an adult wasp.
  • Step 3: From the parasited fly pupae wasps and not flies will hatch.
  • Step 4: For the rest of the life cycle of the mini wasp it will crawl through the deep litter bedding looking for flye pupae to lay eggs in.
